Experience mayan care with our three soap sampler that comes with a hand woven and crafted Guatemalan textile pouch. Makes a great gift for someone that deserves some pampering.
All of our soaps are made using cold process techniques. They are inspired by traditional mayan practices, drinks and spices. Close your eyes and turn your shower into a peaceful and sensual experience with the sweet, subtle scent of incense and rose or a morning coffee with a touch of cardamom - or even a thermal bath with precious black salt and eucalyptus.
Made as a strong espresso transformed into a soap with the addition of cardamom essential oil and organic cardamom seed from the Alta Verapaz region of Guatemala. The coffee provides an exfoliant and the caffeine helps increase circulation.
Infused with sacred and traditional essences of Mayan ceremonial incense: Frankincense, Myrrh and Copal from the Mayan site Uaxactun. We add Rose Absolute for a relaxing blend of essential oils that smells divine and keeps skin moisturized. Roses are also everywhere to be seen in Antigua - the local market is brimming with a wealth of varieties.
This unique soap bar is packed with the precious Mayan black salt from a highlands town in Guatemala. Considered sacred by the Maya and used for therapeutic purposes, our black salt is extracted by families in the Guatemalan Highlands using over century-old traditions. This soap is made using the brine method and gives you a very gentle and relaxing exfoliating soap. This soap is a gentle exfoliant blended with relaxing essential oils.
Mayan Black Salt is a special ingredient, as it is still considered sacred by the Maya. It was one of the early commodities of the ancient Maya, as it was harvested along riverbeds and transported to other communities. This salt is collected using centuries-old methods passed down through families in the highlands of Guatemala. It is a rigorous and ancient process, only practiced by few now. It is used in our soaps to give a nice, foamy lather and gentle exfoliant. It is combined in this soap with eucalyptus which the Mayans used in their tamascals (a type of sauna) to help clear the air and breathing.
Copal has been used traditionally by the Maya in Guatemala for burning during sacred ceremonies and is believed to purify the air and spirit. To the ancient Maya, the divine God of the Earth extracted Copal resin from the Tree of Life and gave it to the humans as a gift. It is a resin similar to amber with a smoky, sweet aroma. The organic Copal we use for Tierra & Lava products is harvested from trees in the Uaxactun village and Mayan site of Guatemala (just behind Tikal). Frankincense and Myrrh are combined with Copal to burn as incense for ceremonies and also happen to have amazing skincare properties that the Egyptians made use of centuries ago.
