"Tom and I are former tech industry veterans, and that’s where we met and fell in love… but Tom also had a secondary passion as a practicing massage therapist who wanted to open his spa. One day walking through our rainforests in the Pacific Northwest, an idea was born - what if we could create a spa experience for a home that introduced these great ingredients, their benefits, and their story to the public? We wanted to create a line of affordable, effective, safe, and unique personal care products that reflect the incredible diversity and power of the Amazon Rainforest. We also believe strongly that there is no path to halting climate change that does not include the preservation of the Amazon, which is disappearing at an alarming rate. Every day, plant and animal species disappear forever in the Amazon. We are only beginning to understand how this destruction negatively impacts habitat, new medicines, fresh water in the US, weather patterns, etc. We are on a mission to replant 1 million trees and preserve 75k acres in the Amazon rainforest – and every aspect of our business supports that work. We are here to change the face of the beauty industry. We have fully adopted the B Corp mantra using business as a force for good. Although it was a long path from creating our first scrub to a full line of products, customers now love that they can have high-performance products that are not just toxin-free, vegan, and cruelty-free but positive for the environment and community. Teadora's mission is to create clean beauty products using naturopathic healthy, and beautiful teachings from our founder’s mother & locals we encountered in our journeys through the Amazon rainforest. We’ve developed highly effective combinations of the most wildly potent, naturally derived active ingredients from the rainforest and beyond to deliver practical, luxurious, multi-functional, and affordable clean skincare products.
Teadora Clean Beauty standards are highly subjective and sometimes personal; we take a 4 step approach in evaluating the ingredients that go into our products.
For the first pass, we run the entire ingredient list throughEWG’s SkinDeep for a close look at pure numbers. We try to avoid anything that rates above a 3 (most of our formulas have ingredients that are almost entirely 1s).
Second, we look at some of the best ingredient standards created in the industry, such as theWholefoods Premium Standards, as another guide for ingredients that we stay away from.
Third, we then apply our standards and lenses after putting the ingredients through the first two as there might be ingredients that are okay in the first two but not OK for us due to sourcing methods, environmental impact, etc. Given our B-Corp Certification, we must abide by stringent ingredient selection and sourcing standards. As a result, our B-Corp certification ratings are high, which has allowed us to be part of their “Best for the World” group.
Lastly, we review the lists and ratings on an ongoing basis and make adjustments along the way to ensure we incorporate any new information or changes in how ingredients are rated, new findings, etc. We have changed a couple of formulas to replace ingredients from 1-3 in ratings. For instance, we replaced Retinyl Palmitate in the Multi-Tasking Oil formulation with Sweet Potato extract a while back. The safety of some ingredients is also highly dependent on the type of products they are used in.
Information about the safety of ingredients often changes as new evidence is found. The safety of some ingredients often can also be related to your own needs and limitations, so staying informed is critical. Don’t trust either brands or retailers to do the homework for you. Many retailers claim to have “Clean” assortments that often still utilize PEGs as preservatives and often even worse. There are great independent sources for ingredient info; a couple of our favorites are EWG’s SkinDeep. We also love the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. But once again, seek to understand and, based on the info they provide, come up with your safety net given your own needs and what makes the most sense to you. This is a crucial component to selecting safe ingredients that people often dismiss. Knowing will help you Clean Up your beauty routine and make safer choices. After all, your skin is your largest organ. It’s also essential to make choices that are good for you and safe for the environment. What may be clean for someone may not consider your values and limitations.
Some other things to keep in mind, which are not necessarily harmful but need to be used in moderation, and you should be aware of your limitations.

Ensure the Forest is Worth more Standing vs. Cut. Create an efficient supply chain with sustainability at its core, reducing transportation impact, keeping more money in local communities, and ensuring the forest is worth more than cut. We work closely with small harvesting communities to ensure fair and consistent practices that help these communities with long-lasting and sustainable relationships with the forest.
Restore and protect. In our first project, we partnered with the University of Purdue to create a solar-powered film studio for the Kayapo People, helping to strengthen these communities. Our second project was to help make a Women’s Wellness Center for victims of human trafficking. Currently, we are working with the Rainforest Foundation US to preserve 350,000 acres of habitat for multiple endangered species and plant more than 1 million trees in an area sacred to the Wapichan People.
Continuous Improvement. We are committed to reducing the impact of our products by eliminating ingredients that are harmful to people, animals, or the environment.
